NEWS! ABOUT THE RAMONES! AND PUNK MAGAZINE! LOTS OF IT!
SUMMER IS FUN! ART IS FUN! PUNK IS FUN!
I didn’t/couldn’t send a newsletter last week because so many things have been happening and coming together lately that I’ve been crazy busy. I’ll be full of news for the next few weeks. Here’s the latest:
The gallery show at Subliminal Projects has been an unqualified success! I’m in contact with people I met in Los Angeles and have plans to work with some of them. And it was amazing to see “Punk Art” being recognized as an art movement again. The crowd of people attending the event and all of the feedback since then has been very positive and encouraging. Thank you Shepard Fairey for putting it together.
They cost only $100 and are still available. (Limited edition of 25)
You can contact the gallery by phone or email to purchase one:
Email: info@subliminalprojects.com
Phone: 213-213-0078
Prints will be sent out after the show closes on August 24. I have to say that I was impressed with the quality of the art prints (that I signed and numbered, which was the main reason I flew to Los Angeles for the gallery opening). So buy one before they disappear! !
In other news, a new PUNK Magazine/John Holmstrom merch site has been set up by the co-curator of the PUNK LIVES show (Craig Vincent of Destroy Art):

These are all limited edition items that probably won’t be available long-term, so if you see something you like? Go for it.
Yes, there will be a special V.I.P screening of End of the Century, The Story of the Ramones: the seminal documentary about our favorite New York City punk rock band on August 16th. It will mark the 50th anniversary of the Ramones first show at CBGB—the first time they performed as a four-member band, as well as the 20th anniversary of the film). There will more official announcements soon, so this is an advance warning: Hey! Ho! Let’s Go to the biggest Ramones event since the 2016 Queens Museum exhibition!
You can buy tickets here:
https://queenstheatre.org/event/end-of-the-century/.
There will be a Q&A session with some Tangerine Puppets (the first band that Tommy and Johnny were involved with) and several special guests who worked with the Ramones before they became the Ramones. There will also be film footage of Joey Ramone with Sniper! Back when Joey was “Jeff Starship” (or whatever) and dressed in platform boots… I remember seeing him at a New York Dolls show, he was already very tall and seeing him in his platform boots and decked out in his white glam outfit was one of those moments I always carry with see from the New York City glam scene (which I wasn’t involved with, didn’t have the time nor the money),
There will also be a few minutes of a film I’m involved with. If you are a Ramones fan (especially if you live in Queens) this is going to be a huge night.
Here’s the LINK to the IMDB page for the film:

Finally, we’re getting a lot of work done on PUNK #23, the first new issue since way back in 2023! (PUNK #22: “The Iggy “Zine”… You know, the one issue of PUNK Magazine no one seems to know about!)… Which is still available for purchase:

The rollout of PUNK Magazine #23 will be the biggest event since the relaunch of PUNK Magazine back in 2001! We will be giving away FREE COPIES at a FREE CONCERT on September 28 @ Tompkins Square Park, featuring several great (new) punk rock bands.
I’ll be revealing more details about the new issue and other events we are planning for the September 28 re-launch event…
Meanwhile check out the PUNK mag Website in a few days for more information as everything comes together:
