The Joey Ramone Birthday Bash Art Show! Taking Place @ Metropolis JRBB Weekend!
Cartoons! Great Photos! Interesting Stories! Please don't miss It!

Sorry I wasn't able to send a newsletter yesterday, but the Joey Ramone Birthday Bash exhibition that I have been planning since last year is finally coming together. And it looks to be another amazing Ramones Art Show in the tradition of the Queens Museum “40th Anniversary” exhibition in 2016 and the show I put together at the Great Frog Gallery (just before the COVID BS in 2020).
So if you’re traveling to NYC for the Joey Ramone Birthday Bash on May 19th, stop by the Metropolis store while you are in town. The show will be open from Friday, May 17 to whenever. I’ll post the exact hours the exhibition will be open in the next newsletter. I just want all of the people who travel to NYC for the B-Day Bash to be able to enjoy a little extra when they spend so much money to be here for the JRBB, and for people who can’t attend the music performances to enjoy Celebrating 50 Years of Joey Ramone. .
The event at Metropolis will be totally free, and we are hoping to get a few performers at the Bash to show up for an amazing Saturday Night PARTY before the Sunday night show at the Bowery Ballroom. (And of course we are hoping that people might buy a few items to support the Lymphoma Foundation).
The “Big Fun” starts to take place on the evening of the Friday, May 17th “Cartoonist Jam Session” in the Metropolis “Dungeon”. I am trying to line up a lot of professional cartoonist talent (and a few amateurs amateurs) for this “Pre-Game Show.” If you are an illustrator or cartoonist who would like to join us? Please show up on Friday night, around 7:00. I promise it will be Big Fun!
The special event “Opening Night, V.I.P Party” will take place on Saturday night. We can’t promise that a lot of big names in punk will attend, but this could happen… Monte A. Melnick will be showing “Rock ‘N’ Roll High School offering his commentary and will conduct a Q&A afterwards. .
Best of all: It is free! You don’t need a ticket to the JRBB or anything.
For instance:
Noted photographers will be exhibiting their favorite photo of Joey:
Roberta Bayley: Her favorite photo of Joey, and another of Joey and Debbie
Godlis : A Joey pic, as well as a nice image of Arturo Vega (The 5th Ramone!)
Tom Hearn: He has some amazing photos of Joey and Debbie from Mutant Monster Beach Party! I look forward to see what he has to offer. Tom is like the Secret Weapon!
Miss Debra T. : Miss Debra is a great photographer who really exhibits her work, so this promises to be an exciting part of the exhibition: Her backstage photos from all of the past Joey Ramone Birthday Bashes, as wells her other photos of Iggy, The Damned, Joey and Debbie-you name it.
John Holmstrom (that’s me!) will be exhibiting some never-before-seen drawings from “Road To Ruin” featuring Joey Ramone and the Pinhead. And a shitload of cool Joey images that you’ve never seen before.
So if you are a Ramones fan? Make plans to enjoy “Joey Ramone Weekend.”
I look forward to seeing you there!
There were three photos from Mutant Monster in the show: Two by Roberta and one by Tom Hearn (he shot the opening sequence, as I'm sure you remember). Tom is donating all of the proceeds from the sale of his photos to the Lymphoma Foundation.... He's The Man!
Tom Hearn as “the Secret Weapon” … that’s pretty cool.
