The “Bozo Melonhead” comic strip I sent out recently was so popular I figured I would post another one. This was from the Maniac magazine year (1984-85), when Bananas truly went “bananas.” JOE appeared in black and white (part of the obvious budget cuts which were probably due to Scholastic Inc.’s overcommitment to digital projects).
Reading it again (after almost 40 years), I think maybe our culture has truly embraced stupidity as our guiding principle. Not that TV shows like F-Troop, My Mother The Car or The Beverly Hillbillies weren’t a prominent part of “The Vast Wasteland” (as television was referred to by highbrow types back in the day), but “fake reality shows” like The Bachelorette, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, and Jersey Shore make those 1960s sitcoms look like Shakespeare.
So maybe this comic strip was somehow prophetic? Or was it easy to see that our culture was already in decline?
You don't got to blow anyone, just buy one and mail it to me (or if you are in NYC, we can meet up). I'm always glad to take help out, especially since the ComiCons have shut down.
