Ditko and Kirby were always my favorites growing up, then when I got exposed to R. Crumb's stuff (and learned more about how "The Marvel Way" worked), I switched gears and went for the underground. But yeah, it was a gas to work in Will Eisner's office while all that was going on. More stories down the road!
I bought PUNK magazine hot off the presses and was thrilled that there was crucial information available for me, stuck up in Westchester county as the only punk in the village! I bought 2 copies of each, one to cut up and display and one to keep. I still have them in storage.
I bought and read those Warren Spirit issues religiously, as a kid. The Spirit remains my favorite comic book, one of the few I still avidly collect. As far as I'm concerned, Eisner and Kirby are the apex of comics artistry. Thanks for this, John!
Wow! Thanks for the comment.
Thanks, Ace! Those were crazy years, I always enjoy telling stories about what they were like.

Great stories as always.

I didn't know this about you!! Sounds like it was very formative and taught you a hell of a lot.
